Cyclists Welcome

The hotel participates in the Cyclists Welcome project. We have bike tools, first aid kit, facility for washing and drying clothes etc. Bike rent is also available.

Hotel Happy Star – Sealsfieldův kámen – Kraví hora – Znojmo

This cycling path starts at the hotel and goes to Znojmo through “Greenway 48” (Prague – Vienna). Turn right at the first chapel and head along the path “5000”. You will pass Staré vinice and its protected flora and fauna. At signpost the path branches out around Henyk’s hut to Havranice Heath. Wine tasting in Havraníky at the Znovín Znojmo winery is possible (more on wine in Znojmo region).

The path then turns left to the path “5001” (leads to Popice birthplace of American writer Charles Sealsfield). Canyon Dyje river is visible from the rock cliff. Both paths join up in Popice and continue together through Konice to Kravi hill that lies opposite to the Znojmo historical panorama. The path is very steep down to the Dyje river and if you cross the bridge there is a pub Pod Obří hlavou. (below the dike of the dam). The path ends on the Komenského square close to the town wall.

Hotel Happy Star – Šobes – Králův Stolec – Znojmo

This path starts at the right side of the hotel and follows Greenway 48 (Prague – Vienna) and after 1km it slopes down to the Dyje river canyon in the Podyjí National Park. The path then crosses the foot bridge and goes up to a rest spot at the Šobes vineyard. (protected by UNESCO). Wine from Znovín Znojmo is available here. (local wines).

Proceed up the steep path with the view of the valley Devět mlýnů. At the crossroad U Milíře it turns right on the cycling path “5000” that goes to Podmolí passing pub Hospudka U Rybnika. Then it goes back to the Podyjí National Park and continues through the heath (former military shooting range Mašovice) to the building Andělský mlýn. The path weaves through forests to the viewpoint Králův Stolec. An old mill with the old water power plant Trauznice – partially underwater – are visible.

Continuing along to Hradiště (the oldest settlement in the Czech Republic) there are good views of the historical part of Znojmo. The path ends at the Komenského square by the town wall.

Hotel Happy Star – Šobes – Nový Hrádek

This path follows the Greenways 48/500 path as far as the Příčky crossroad when it goes left to Nový Hrádek. It is very hilly and good cycling skills are required (mainly at Šobes vineyard and the Žlébský creek). Big salamanders live in the Žlebský creek. The best view of the Dyje river canyon is from Nový Hrádek. (more on webpages about Podyjí).

Hotel Happy Star – Lampelberg

This path begins on Greenway 48 and heads to Šatov (the base of Znovín Znojmo winery). More on local wines page. Located here is the painted cellar (Malovaný sklep). Shopping centre Excalibur and Hate Freeport are 2 km away. In Dyjakovičky follow the path “5007”. It leads through the vineyard of Eko Hnízdo winery to reveal the Lampelberg fort. There is a nice outlook at the plateau lying between the Moravian and Austrian border.

Hotel Happy Star – Heiliger Stein – Retz

The path begins on Geenway 48 then goes left to Austrian border crossing. It is only for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, with passport checked at random. There you will find the religious place Helinger Stein with a view of the Retz region with vineyard around Daníž creek. Then the trail goes between vineyards to Retz (more on local wine webpages There are lots of historical sites such as an army cemetery, and cycling museum.
